• Class 1 is rated at 50 years above ground and 25 years in ground
• Class 2 is rated at 50 years above ground and 15-25 years in ground
• Hardwood posts are generally not kiln dried and are subject to cracking as they dry
• Linear cracks will not affect structural integrity and can be filled if unsightly
